We are so tired today for several reasons…. We were host parents for Youth conference this weekend. We got about 3 hours of sleep on Friday. Last night was daylight savings time which we lost an hour of sleep on top of already being sleep deprived. The kids did a carnival for disabled children like we did 5 years ago when Taylor and I were the specialists. It was Chaz’s first time. We made pizza and pizookies and Swedish pancakes and waffles for them. It seems we cooked a lot for them. We had girls this time and the Simmons had boys. That made it really convenient. We had 7 girls all about 16 years of age and they had 6 boys about the same age. Benj and Robynne were one of the guest speakers for the Saturday workshops. They talked about how to prepare for temple marriage and a mission. They did a great job. I heard a lot of kids say that was their favorite talk. So many people came up to me and said how much they love Benj as their Seminary teacher and Robynne as their Sunday school teacher. I had parents telling me how amazed they are that their child likes going to Seminary because he’s such a good teacher.
Today I presented the young women’s value FAITH in Young women. I wore all white because that is the color associated with the value. I showed a pic of the prophet and asked Who is this? (the prophet) How do you know? “We can see him” I had a girl close her eyes and I put pennies in her hand and asked What are these? (pennies) How do you know? “I can feel them. Still closing her eyes, I put vinegar under her nose to smell. What is that? (vinegar) How do you know? “I can smell it. I sprinkled sugar from a salt shaker. I sprinkled some into her hand and had her taste it. What is that? (sugar) How do you know? I can taste it. I then showed a pic of the Savior. “Who is this?” (The Savior) How do you know?……It’s because of your faith. You believe in him because you have faith that he’s real and its true. I then bore my testimony and told them I don’t ever want them to wonder if I had a testimony. My kids either. I will always bear it so they know their Mom had a testimony. I gave them a bookmark with a pic of a girl in armor with a quote about faith and a penny with the words, In God We Trust. Powerful words.
Then I went into Primary. The President asked me to share the blessings of being a Mom. What I liked most about it. (They are learning about families this year.) So I said I love seeing my kids make good choices. I love to see them work hard like missionary and Juli and Chaz cleaning the office and doing the recalls. I love to see how good my grandchildren are. That means that you really did something right when your kids are raising their kids and teaching them how to pray and love the gospel. Yesterday at the carnival, Tyler and Elle came. He would go and “win” the prizes at the booths and then give the prize to Elle. It was so precious. One of the booths gave him a little bottle of bubbles that looked like a tiger. He handed it back to them and asked them for the pink one and he ran and gave it to Elle. It was so precious to see him be so Christlike and love his little sister. Josh and Erika are doing a great job. I told them what a great blessing it is to have people tell me how wonderful my kids are. I love hearing the words Can I help you? I told them to tell their Moms that. I told them what a blessing it was to have a peacemaker in our home. Brett was always the peacemaker. I told them we didn’t know how great he was in that area until he left on his mission. He always just placed himself between them to stop them from fighting.
Right after church 4 of the young women stayed after to chalk their lifesize paper bodies for the New Beginnings in a couple of weeks. That makes 17 out of 18 girls are done now. Their schedules are so crazy. I just try to be real flexible. I drove them home and then rushed home to make dinner. We had the missionaries, Josh, Erika, Tyler, Elle, Benj, Robynne, Caleb, (Lisa was working) Chaz, Juli, Kyle, Jessica, Eric, Kyle’s friend, and us. Sundays are always fun and a little crazy.
