Going to Benj's graduation from basic training was an amazing thing to experience as a Mom. The impressions that will stay with me forever is how young they all are. I know that hasn't changed. Young men have been fighting our wars since the beginning of history but actually seeing all of the graduates out there on the parade grounds (which I brought home dirt from from my collection) was very overwhelming. I felt extremely patriotic and blessed. I thought as I waited in the stands in the 100 degree heat and 90% humidity, "Have I been prouder of Benj?" Well the answer came so swiftly, "Yes, when he took Robynne to the Redlands temple to be sealed and make covenants with her." Still it was such an amazing experience. Parker was an angel. We went to the Alamo and ate Mexican food on the River Walk at Casa Rio. We went to a WNBA game (something we never thought we would do) so that Benj could stay off base a little longer. We watched as he received his Airman's coin and took the oath of an Airman 1st class. We watched as he ran in the Airman's run at 7:00 am. Everything was at 7:00 am even Sun. church so we were tired. He had many missionary experiences and funny stories to share with us. We videoed him telling the stories because they were just so fun to share. I wanted something to take home with me from Texas so I bought me a pair of genuine leather cowboy boots. They're so cool. And everytime I wear them I will think of Benj and his incredible experience in the Airforce basic training. I'm glad Robynne is with him now. We get to skype and that is a blessing too. Every bridge we saw had the words, Integrity, Service and Excellence on them. It was so orderly and efficient. I was very impressed with the whole experience. We were so glad we could be there with them. A tender moment in our family history.
