Nov. 24, 2008

Today after we ate we played Cranium and Grandpa actually played and I had to act out Wayne’s World. After doing the actions for “Party on Wayne, Party on Garth” No one could get it but Grandpa yelled, “Wayne’s World”. We all gave him high fives. It was fun. He adds a new dimension to the game playing. We had to stop and explain everything to him. Taylor had fun making fun of everyone as usual. The pics here are of the kids playing the pass the cup game. It got really loud and fast and Chaz ended up falling off his chair in the mayhem.

This week was the premier of Twilight, the vampire movie and of course I forgot my camera. I read all 4 books in the series and so has everyone else I know. It was written by an LDS author. A rich author I might add. Robyn said we should go to the midnight showing. I’ve never been to a midnight showing. Funny. When we were buying tickets on-line Taylor said he wanted to go. Funny again. When I told Robyn that Taylor wanted to go to and that we bought him a ticket, she said Tom was going too. Too Funny! It was really fun. The audience was mainly teenage girls and so much energy. I haven’t stayed up until 3 in the morning for a long time, mainly because I get up and make breakfast for the Seminary-going Chaz. We felt like we should have a shirt like everyone else in the audience. One mom’s shirt said, “Yes I’m a Mom, Yes I read Twilight, Yes I’m in love with Edward, PS don’t tell my husband.” I think that was the sentiment of most of the audience. I liked the books and the movie. It was different than what I mostly read. Very easy to read. I didn’t need the dictionary once. I usually have to look up some words in the books I read. It was very adolescent. Everyone is in love with the main character Edward. I definitely didn’t feel the way most of the people felt in the audience but I sure enjoyed myself both reading and watching the movie. A little fantasy is good for the soul.

A few weeks ago our Relief Society held a service auction. We all donated things that we were good at. I donated a home cooked meal including dessert for FHE on Mon. We got points for all kinds of things like reading our scriptures and reading to our kids and taking a bubble bath, how many kids/grandkids we have etc. I bought a 30 min. home interior decorator’s advice with my points. I made dinner for a family on Mon. We made roast and Taylor made gravy and homemade rolls etc. It was really good if I do say so myself, I’m not gonna lie. I don’t think a lot of people cook nowadays. They get take out or microwave something.

I did the art lesson in Juli’s class on Thurs. and we brought in 41 In & Out Hamburgers and made shakes inside the class. The kids loved it. It was an American artist and we did the cartoon words from comic strips like, “POW, WHAPP, KAPOW, KERPLUNK etc.” They drew them and then filled it in with dots like the printing in a newspaper. I have so many moms that want to help it makes it really easy to do. They probably won’t remember that Roy Lichtenstein was the artist’s name but they’ll remember he was an American and we had In & Out.

The other pics on this post are of Mike, Phil and Caleb, the members of the Personal Space Invaders band practicing again. They are performing at a Club in Upland on Dec. 5. The tickets are $10 each. Taylor, Juli, Chaz, and I are going to go and cheer them on. Should be a fun Friday date night activity. It's interesting how each of our children are so talented. Such a wide variety of talents too. It's great being at this stage of parenthood. My Dad kept saying yesterday, "Cheryl on Thanksgiving you gotta keep your kids out of the mud in the backyard." So I leaned over to Chaz and Juli and said, "OK you two, on Thanksgiving stay out of the mud in Grandpa's backyard." We all just laughed. It's kind of nice not having to worry about stuff like that any more. It's different when you're the grandparent and helping watch out for the kids. The full responsibility isn't there. That's the beauty of being a Grammie and Grandpa.

Just got your Christmas letter today with your blog address. I'm looking forward to knowing what's up with you guys! I love your RS service auction--I think I'll pass that along to our RS or maybe even our Stake RS since our wards are pretty small.

Good Times
